Universal Cinemas (MY VERSION!)

Background: Universal Cinemas was formed in the UK, Germany, Australia, Canada, France, Scandinavia, and Italy for the division of Universal Studios in 1983.

1st Opening
(1983-1989)

Logo: Same as the 1963-1990 Universal Pictures logo, except, the words, CINEMAS and FEATURE PRESENTATION, appears in the bottom of the globe.

FX/SFX: Same as the 1963-1990 Universal Pictures logo.

Music: A re-arranged version of the 1936-1947 Universal logo's fanfare.

Availability: Could be seen in the Universal Cinemas chain at that time.

Scare Factor: Low.

2nd Opening
(1990-1997)

Logo: We see a rising globe flashing with the words, UNITED KINGDOM, with the United Kingdom flag, AUSTRALIA, with the Australian flag, DEUTSCHLAND, with the Germany flag, SCANDINAVIA, with the Norway flag, FRANCAIS, with the France flag, CANADA, with the Canada flag, and ITALIA, with the Italy flag, rise up to the screen. The words, UNIVERSAL CINEMAS, in Copperplate Gothic Bold, the same font as the 1990-1997 Universal Pictures logo, circles through the globe three times until the camera pans out to the globe and the words, UNIVERSAL CINEMAS, straightens to the center, and then, we zoom to the globe with the words, THE NEW AGE OF MOVIES FOR THE 21st CENTURY, in the same font as UNIVERSAL CINEMAS, fading, followed by the words, FEATURE PRESENTATION fading.

FX/SFX: The rising globe, with the flags rising, and the words circling, followed by the zooming to the globe. All great CGI at its time.

Music: A triumphant fanfare, with the rising globe, and the majestic chorus saying, "THE NEW AGE OF MOVIES!"

Availability: Seen in the Universal Cinemas chain from 1991-1997.

Scare Factor: None.

3rd Opening
(1997-1999)

Logo: We open the logo up with the map for United Kingdom, pans out to Europe, with the soda (that has the Chilly Willy and Woody Woodpecker picture) and the popcorn bag (with the Buzz Buzzard picture) floating to the screen, as the camera pans out to the globe, and the popcorn and soda fades away and the words say, WELCOME TO THE 21st CENTURY OF CINEMA, in Impact font, appear and then float away with the words, UNIVERSAL CINEMAS, in the same font as before appearing in the center and the "NO SMOKING" sign, the "NO TALKING" sign, and the popcorn and soda we saw before appear on the screen, appear on the top, and all of that forms to a globe. Then we fade in to the words, FEATURE PRESENTATION and then zoom to the words.

FX/SFX: The map panning, the soda and popcorn floating, and the formation of the globe.

Music: A remix version of the fanfare from the 2nd opening.

Availability: Extinct as of 1999.
