Paramount Video Watch

Created by MattBr

Background: Paramount Video Watch will be a series on Youtube that was created by MattBr, featuring puppet versions of classic Disney cartoon stars (with the Taco Bell Chihuahua and Michigan J. Frog as the main hosts) as well as the occasional presence of the Scottie Dog piece from the Monopoly board game helping them out, making fun of the classic pre-2000 Paramount Home Video releases in a style similar to Golden Book Video Killers, the Nostalgia Critic or Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Paramount Video Watch

1st Logo

Nickname: "Abstract Mountain"

Logo: On a background filled with blue/indigo squares, we see a blue square with the Paramount abstract mountain logo in gold. Michigan J. Frog is on the left and the Taco Bell Chihuahua at the right. Below the logo, "VIDEO WATCH (Roman numeral of episode)" is on the screen. (On special episodes, it just says "VIDEO WATCH"). It shines, then moves and zooms away as the squares behind it move away, revealing "FEATURE PRESENTATION" in gold on a heliotrope gradient background, all the while the Chihuahua and Michigan (and on occasion, the Scottie Dog) are singing the fanfare. (Also on special episodes, "SPECIAL" appears above "FEATURE" and "of (franchise name)" appears below "PRESENTATION") After a few moments, it zooms towards us. It cuts to the warning post, which has a pattern of Paramount mountains in the background.

Bylines: Depending on the video being spoofed, it uses whatever byline Paramount was using at the time:

  • Spoofed 1988-1989 releases: "A Gulf+Western Company"
  • Spoofed 1989-1995 releases: "A Paramount Communications Company" (Earlier versions until 1992 that are spoofed have a different font for the Paramount Communications byline, sans serif)
  • Spoofed 1995-2006 releases: "A VIACOM COMPANY" (in the 1990 \/|/\CO/\/\ "Wigga-Wigga" font)

FX/SFX: The CGI squares moving away, the animation on the Paramount square. The Chihuahua and Michigan are superimposed live-action puppets.

Cheesy Factor: The zooming effect on "FEATURE PRESENTATION" looks like cheap computer effects.

Music/Sounds/Voice-over: Abridged version of the Paramount fanfare, along with an announcer saying "And now, we're pleased to bring you our feature presentation", it is heard under the Chihuahua and Michigan humming along to the fanfare and singing "Paramount Video Waaaatch!!" On special episodes, on the "FEATURE PRESENTATION" screen, the Taco Bell Chihuahua says "A special Feature Presentation!"

Availability: Will be used on every episode of Paramount Video Watch after our hosts introduce the episode and the video they are spoofing begins.

Scare Factor: None to low, the zooming in of the "FEATURE PRESENTATION" text with the jarring cut to the warning can startle some first-time viewers, as well as the fanfare, but the presence of the Chihuahua and Michigan makes it a rather funny logo, but can still startle some viewers.
